Berytech has launched ‘Lebanon Innovate’, a program aiming at transforming technological findings into market-ready products.
The project, which is funded by the European Union with a budget of €3 million, was launched in collaboration with ANIMA Investment Network, European Business and Innovation Centre Network (EBN), Industrial Research Institute (IRI), Industrial Research Achievements-Lebanon (IRALEB), and Leitat Technological Center. LEITAT is a Spain-based non-profit organization involved in technological R&D and in technology transfers to industrial sectors.
The project will focus on the agri-food, healthcare, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sectors.
It will provide €180,000 to eight universities where technology transfer units will be set up. These universities will be selected based on their plans to develop or grow a technology transfer unit.
The project will allocate €100,000 for grants to ten researchers. They will be selected through the Lebanese Industrial Research Achievements Program (LIRA), a yearly competition program that was launched in 1997 to support and motivate researchers.
The venture will cooperate with local legal firms to support intellectual property and will train lawyers on writing patents.
An office for the European Enterprise Network (EEN) will be established in Lebanon to manage partnerships between local and European stakeholders, and organize matchmaking events between visiting delegations from Europe and local stakeholders.
“Universities, research centers, policymakers, SMEs, industrialists, and entrepreneurs are invited to join the program,” said Krystel Khalil, Berytech Programs Director.
