Nine humanitarian emergency projects were launched funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) with a total budget of €5.4 million.
The projects, which were expedited through a rapid response mechanism, are part of a broader €28 million framework aimed at mitigating the effects of the crisis and bolstering Lebanese institutions. This comprehensive approach includes interventions in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), protection services, basic care, food security, and housing.
The projects will be executed over a four-month period by Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in collaboration with public institutions and local partners. The organizations involved include Oxfam, AVSI, CESVI, We World-GVC, Intersos, Terre des Hommes Italia, Azione Contro la Fame, AISPO, and ARCS.
Their activities are nationwide, prioritizing support for vulnerable populations, and are expected to benefit over 300,000 people.
“Italy stands by Lebanon and the Lebanese people now more than ever,” said Fabrizio Marcelli, Italian Ambassador to Lebanon. “These projects provide an immediate and concrete response to the needs of those who have suffered from the conflict. They are also part of our broader support for Lebanon’s development, which includes the contribution of the Italian armed forces within UNIFIL and their support for the Lebanese Armed Forces.”
Alessandra Piermattei, Head of AICS in Beirut, highlighted the multidimensional approach of the initiatives, which include food aid distribution, inclusive access to shelters, and capacity building for local institutions.
These efforts underline Italy’s dual focus on addressing urgent humanitarian needs and fostering long-term resilience in Lebanon, ensuring a brighter future for its people.
