The cost of full Survival Minimum Expenditure Basket (SMEB) monitored by the World Food Program (WFP) stood at $332 per month for a family of five, with the food basket alone costing $30.
WFP has reported that the ongoing economic and political instability continues to harm the food security of both Lebanese and Syrian refugee households. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) for Lebanon, conducted in May 2023, indicates that 25 percent of the analyzed population (1.4 million individuals) is facing acute food insecurity. Additionally, 45 percent of the total population struggles to maintain sufficient food consumption, underscoring the need for immediate action to safeguard livelihoods and prevent a return to acute food insecurity.
Various factors, such as increased coverage of humanitarian food assistance, a more stable food supply chain, expanded job opportunities for Lebanese nationals, have contributed to a reduction in the number of people experiencing acute food insecurity compared to September 2022 (a reduction of approximately 37 percent).
