The United Nations Resident Coordinator Imran Riza, the United Nations Higher Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and the World Food Program (WFP), announced temporarily pausing the dual currency cash assistance to Syrian refugees, upon a request from the Lebanese government. The provision of cash assistance will continue in lira as was the case since 2019, according to UNHCR.

“UNHCR requested providing $40 for each family in addition to $20 per family member for up to five family members on a monthly basis,” said Hector Hajjar, caretaker Minister of Social Affairs. “Paying Syrian refugees in dollars will encourage them to stay, while we need to be pushing towards their return to Syria,” he said.
